31 Years of HSB: A Journey of Innovation and Breakthroughs
On July 13, 2026, the School of Business and Management (HSB), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), celebrated its 31st anniversary (July 13, 1995 – July 13, 2026), marking more than three decades of continuous innovation, creativity, and pioneering achievements in education, scientific research, knowledge transfer, and the development of high-quality human resources.
During the ceremony, representatives of QS Quacquarelli Symonds (United Kingdom) officially presented HSB with its QS Stars 5-Star rating certification. This milestone marks HSB's achievement as the first public higher education institution in Vietnam to receive a QS Stars 5-Star rating, recognizing its outstanding accomplishments in teaching, research, internationalization, innovation, university governance, and sustainable development.
A Pioneering Public Institution in Advancing the Goals of Resolution No. 71
Over 31 years of establishment and development, HSB has evolved into an internationally recognized institution specializing in interdisciplinary education. Having achieved a QS Stars 5-Star rating, the School offers a comprehensive range of academic programs at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. Its educational activities are closely integrated with scientific research, knowledge transfer, and advisory services for the Party, the State, local authorities, organizations, and businesses.
HSB has also established a network of more than 20,000 alumni and students, further strengthening its position in research, consultancy, and the education and training of leaders, managers, and executives.
HSB's academic and research activities are centered on two distinctive approaches: Non-Traditional Security Management and Integrated Business Management, supported by three core academic pillars: Management – Technology – Security. Together, these foundations enable the development of modern, practice-oriented academic programs aligned with emerging global trends.
Key Achievements
- The first public higher education institution in Vietnam to achieve a QS Stars 5-Star rating, assessed against 56 evaluation criteria.
- 100% of its English-taught, high-quality undergraduate programs have been accredited by ACQUIN (Germany).
- 100% employment rate among bachelor's degree graduates.
- Official membership in the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
- The only public institution collaborating with police and military academies to establish the Institute for Non-Traditional Security (INS).
- The first public institution to have substantially fulfilled the objectives set out in Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW.
Advancing Three Strategic Areas of Excellence in a New Era of National Development
Speaking at the anniversary ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Bui The Duy, Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, acknowledged HSB's continued efforts to strengthen institutional autonomy, enhance the quality of education and research, and expand international integration. He emphasized that the QS Stars 5-Star rating demonstrates the significant achievements HSB has made throughout more than three decades of development.
Looking ahead, HSB is expected to take a pioneering role in researching and developing academic programs in management science, technology management, artificial intelligence, and emerging economic sectors, including the low-altitude economy, unmanned aerial vehicles, and security management.
HSB's Three Strategic Priorities
- Master's Program for High-Potential Leaders: Developing an internationally benchmarked master's program in leadership and management in collaboration with universities ranked among the world's top 20–30 institutions.
- Non-Traditional Security Management: Advancing education and research in non-traditional security management in association with the MNS Think Tank.
- Cybersecurity Management: Developing the INS Cyber Security Center for research, education, training, and practical applications in cybersecurity management.
Professor Dr. Hoang Dinh Phi, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the School of Business and Management, emphasized:
“Thirty-one years is a significant journey, long enough for HSB to establish its identity as a pioneering higher education institution, yet it is only the beginning of even greater aspirations. The achievements we celebrate today are not an endpoint, but rather a foundation upon which HSB will continue to undertake greater missions, contributing to solutions for the nation's strategic challenges through knowledge, science, technology, and innovation.”
